Kherson and Norrköping deepen cooperation: from innovation to inclusion
Kherson Deputy Mayor Vitalii Bielobrov met with the team from the Swedish city of Norrköping to discuss areas of cooperation and experience exchange between the two municipalities. The partnership between Kherson and Norrköping began in 2023 and is now entering a practical phase — developing concrete projects in innovation, culture, and youth policy.
The municipalities are exploring cooperation across different sectors. “We have a lot to learn from each other and can inspire one another to move forward,” said Eva-Britt Sjöberg (Christian Democrats), First Deputy Chair of the City Council for International Relations.
A series of meetings were organized in Norrköping, including:
- a discussion with Norrköping Science Park on technology and startup development;
- a dialogue with the Chamber of Commerce on business cooperation;
- a working session with Siemens Energy on energy modernization and sustainable infrastructure;
- a meeting with architects on principles of inclusivity in urban environments;
- and a meeting with Ukrainians who had to relocate to Norrköping because of the full-scale invasion. The partners are already working together on organizing possible rest and recreation opportunities in Sweden for children from Kherson.
The Kherson delegation, in turn, shared its experience in resilience and crisis management during wartime.
“The partnership between Kherson and Norrköping is important for both our communities. For Kherson, it means support in recovery, access to modern European development practices, and a sense of global solidarity. For Norrköping, it is an opportunity to share its experience in sustainable development, while also learning from Kherson’s unique expertise in resilience and crisis management. Together we enrich each other with knowledge and build the foundation for long-term cultural, educational, and economic ties,” said Vitalii Bielobrov, Deputy Mayor of Kherson.
The partnership was made possible thanks to Cities4Cities within the “International Municipal Cooperation” sphere of the Swedish-Ukrainian Polaris Programme “Supporting Multilevel Governance in Ukraine”, funded by Sida and implemented by SALAR International.
