History
Settlements on the site of Bohuslav existed long before it was officially granted the status of a town. It was founded in 1032 by Prince Yaroslav the Wise of Kyiv.
The first mention of the settlement in the annals as a fortress for defence against the Cumans dates back to 1195.
The ancient name of the town was Bohuslavl. According to one of the versions, the name of the town comes from the river of the same name. According to another, after a raid of nomads on the southern borders of Kyiv Rus was repelled, everyone glorified Prince Yaroslav the Wise. In response, the prince said “Glory to God!” and ordered to build a fortress town on the left bank of the river, which was named Bohuslavl.
In 1240, Bohuslav was destroyed by Mongol-Tatar hordes. After reconstruction, it was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and then part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Afterwards the town was turned into a fortified fortress.
In 1667, Bohuslav became part of Poland and suffered numerous attacks from the Crimean Tatars and Turks. But the numerous destructions and history of the town’s struggle only strengthened it.
The Bohuslavl Regional Landscape Park is located on the banks of the Ros River in the centre of the community.
Also, within the territory of the Community there is a geological landmark of nature of local importance “Bohuslav Granites Outcrop”. Its territory encompasses four hectares.
In the town of Bohuslav, there is an architectural landmark of national importance, the Holy Trinity Church, the construction of which was completed in 1861.
