History
In 1596, the town was first mentioned in historical documents.
One of Burshtyn’s ancient buildings is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It was first mentioned in historical sources in 1668. And in 1700, Bishop Joseph Shumlianskyi transferred the Halychyna-Lviv diocese to the union, and the church has since become Greek Catholic.

The main wealth of the Burshtyn community is the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity. It was built in 1740-1755 on the site of a wooden church by Pavel Benoe. The church is an architectural monument.

Kasova Hora is a natural reserve and a protected area within the Halychyna National Nature Park. It is a natural monument. More than 300 species of plants grow there.

Economy and Welfare
The town of Burshtyn belongs to the category of mono-economy cities.
The largest enterprise in the town is a powerful industrial complex – Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant (Donbas Fuel and Energy Company). The company’s activities affect all spheres of town life by generating the local budget and ensuring the level of employment and income of the population.

The community also has the agricultural company “Bovshivska”, established in 2002. Today, the agricultural company “Bovshivska” cultivates over 1,300 hectares of land, grows and keeps about 350 heads of cattle.

The enterprise “Domobudivnyk-1” is engaged in the production of reinforced concrete structures for civil and industrial construction. The enterprise specializes in the manufacture of high-quality reinforced concrete products and offers a wide range of goods: floor slabs, wall blocks, foundations, fence elements, stair platforms and other building elements.
There is also a lot of vacant space for rent on the factory premises, which opens up opportunities for new projects.

In general, the industrial complex of the Burshtyn community is represented by: a powerful enterprise – Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant (supply of electricity, steam and conditioned air), which accounts for 99.8% of the industrial output of the town of Burshtyn; utility company “Zhytlovyk” (water supply, sewage, utilities); processing industry enterprises (production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products, prefabricated structural elements for construction from cement, concrete or artificial stone).
Small businesses are mainly focused on trade, agriculture, catering, consumer services, and IT services.
The community has 10 general education institutions, 4 preschool education institutions, a music school, over 30 cultural institutions, and 10 libraries.

There is also an extensive network of healthcare facilities. There are 2 outpatient clinics, 1 paramedic and obstetrician station, the Burshtyn Central Town Hospital and the Burshtyn Primary Health Care Center.

As part of the “Dream and Act” program, implemented by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), we realized a project and created the Kahanets Youth Center – a comfortable and safe space, furnished with the necessary equipment, where you can work, hold meetings and trainings, and simply relax from the town noise and think about your own ideas.
The Kahanets Youth Center in the town of Burshtyn is not only a meeting place, but also a community of energetic and creative young people who come together for self-development, new opportunities, and support.
Community and War
On February 24, 2022, municipal employees immediately switched to a 24-hour work regime under martial law to ensure uninterrupted operation and coordination of all services and assistance in accommodating people arriving in the community. Humanitarian collection points for essential supplies for internally displaced persons and military personnel were established at the town council.

Employees of the municipality, educational, cultural, healthcare, and other institutions, facilities, and enterprises donated their one-day earnings, thanks to which the community was able to purchase an all-terrain vehicle for the military.

The Youth Council, which was recently created under the executive committee of the Burshtyn Town Council, began its work with a volunteer project. The boys and girls organized the production of trench candles for the defenders.

The community has set up long-term accommodation for internally displaced persons. In total, it is over 200 places with furniture and appliances. Right from the first days of the full-scale invasion, the community leadership began contacting partners to provide assistance.

Unfortunately, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the community has lost 50 heroes who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The community residents are doing everything possible for and believe in a quick victory for Ukraine!

Community People
Vasyl Andrieshyn is the head of the community.

The community is completing the creation of a modern rehabilitation department. The department will become an important recovery center for community residents, military personnel, and those in need of long-term rehabilitation. Mayor Vasyl Andrieshyn has identified this project as his personal priority.

The community leader actively promotes the community on various platforms. Among them is participation in the forum “Just Transition of Coal Communities”, as the Burshtyn community is a member of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.

The community has introduced the annual International Festival of Wooden Sculpture “Burshtyn-Mystetskyi”. Now the community of the town has an art meadow organized by the Park Sculpture.

Every year, the 4th festival of spiritual and patriotic songs “Dniester Wave” takes place on the territory of the Religious and Historical Complex “Mountain over the Dniester” in the village of Novyi Martyniv.

Development Strategy
The community has approved a development strategy for 2024-2030.
An important step for the development of the community is the installation of alternative heating sources in Burshtyn and in the hospital and educational institutions. This will ensure comfortable and safe learning, and the community residents will be provided with heat.

The community has developed a concept for the Burshtyn Industrial Park. The purpose of developing the Concept is to ensure sustainable economic development of the Burshtyn community, activate investment activities, create new jobs, and develop modern production and market infrastructure.

As part of the partnership between the Burshtyn community and the partner town of Barcin (the Republic of Poland), the community participated in the “Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 Program”, where it was selected as one of the winners of the project applications competition in the “Environment” priority area.
Besides, we received a bus for the community from our sister town of Barcin. We also provided one bus for the needs of territorial defense in connection with military operations.
