Karapchiv Territorial Community

The Karapchiv community is located in Chernivtsi region in the western part of Ukraine. The total area of the community is 4,632 sq km. The Karapchiv community includes 2 rural population centers.
97% of the community’s population is ethnic Romanians. Ukrainians, Moldovans, Poles, and Germans also live here.
As of January 1, 2024, the population of the community is 4,431 people.

History
The administrative center of the community is the village of Yordaneshty. The first mentions of the village date back to 1443.
The village of Yordaneshty is spread over both banks of the mountain river Siret.
The Saint Michael’s Church, built in 1898, is the guardian of the residents of the village of Yordaneshty. The church has been completely preserved in its original form, although it is 120 years old. And at present it has historical and cultural value. Residents of the community respect and take care of their religious buildings.

Another unique structure in the Karapchiv community is a suspension bridge over the Siret River, the length of which is 134 meters. Built in 2000, it serves pedestrians and cars. The bridge is repaired monthly by the villagers to maintain proper technical condition.

The community is also proud of its century-old village mill, which still performs its function today – peasants grind flour and cereals here.

Economy and Welfare
The Karapchiv community is one of the smallest in the region. 16 business entities are registered here. There is a chain of shops, 6 cafes, a gas station and two car service stations, two beauty salons in the village.
The Bukovyna region is famous for its beech forests, and the Karapchiv community is no exception. There are beautiful forests and, accordingly, three woodworking workshops here. Delicious sausage products are also produced and sold in the community.

The economy of the Karapchiv community is mainly based on agriculture. Two agro-industrial enterprises “KUPA BULD”, “KUPA BULD PLUS” and “Bukovynsky krokhmal” operate on its territory at the appropriate technological level. They cultivate both the reserve land of the Karapchiv territorial community and the land shares owned by the residents of the population centers.
The educational sector of the Karapchiv community is represented by 3 schools and 2 kindergartens. In 2017, the construction of a new modern three-story school was completed in Yordaneshty. It was built using energy-saving technologies and can accommodate all village schoolchildren and even preschoolers, which is more than two hundred children.


The medical sector in the community is represented by 2 general practice family medicine clinics. The community residents receive health care services of secondary and tertiary levels in Hlyboka and Chernivtsi.
In the Karapchiv community, they respect and keep the traditions of their ancestors, the people here are religious and hardworking. There is a dance club for children in the community, there are also excellent professional men’s choirs “Kordiy” and “Fiii Arboroasei “, which fascinate listeners with their singing.
There are two village libraries in the community and the “Bibliomist” program. There are also school libraries in secondary schools, where pupils can borrow textbooks and program literature, a village stadium, where football competitions are held, as well as a park for walking and recreation.
The community has good relations with Romania, as the majority of the population is Romanian-speaking and has family ties with the neighboring country.

Community and War
From the first days of the war, the residents of the Karapchiv community stood up to defend their Motherland from russian aggression. To date, 2 soldiers from the community have fallen, there are also missing soldiers, as well as wounded veterans.
Despite the fact that the community is small and its budget is limited, the community residents help the frontline without stopping by buying and repairing cars, purchasing fuel and everything necessary, which is requested by the Ukrainian military. UAH 100 thousand has been allocated from the community budget for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the community has taken in nearly four hundred internally displaced persons (IDPs). Today, there are 13 IDPs living here.

People of the Community
Karapchiv Village Head Heorhii Liutyk was first elected to the post of Village Head of the Yordaneshty Village Council in November 2010.
Until then, from 2000 to 2002, he worked as the Karapchiv Village Head. On June 30, 2019, he was elected as the Village Head of the Yordaneshty Village Council of the Karapchiv united territorial community. Since then, he has been re-elected and has been the permanent head since the creation of the Karapchiv Rural United Territorial Community.

The adoption in April 2024 of the Strategy of Social and Economic Development of the Karapchiv Territorial Community for 2024-2027 became an important step for the development of the community. The community has decided on a vector of development and continues to build its infrastructure, help the army, take care of children and socially vulnerable residents.
