History
The village of Lypianka was founded in 1570-1630.
It’s name is of plant origin (Ukrainian “lypa” translates as “linden” into English”) – ancient linden trees grew on the outskirts of the village which ended the Black Forest stretching all the way from Chyhyryn.
According to folk tales, the first settlers were the Cossacks, who created farms at a certain distance from each other along the Hnylyi Tovmach River. The Cossacks had many apiaries and were engaged in the trade of linden honey.
Residents who inhabited this area cut down lindens, uprooted them, and therefore in those years when lindens were uprooted in the fields, these fields were called “unrooted”.
As a reminder of the thickness of the linden trees, some residents kept linden tubs with hollows over a meter across. These tubs were passed to them by their grandparents and great-grandparents.
People’s Artist of Ukraine, sculptor and ethnographer Ivan Honchar (1911-1993) was born in the Lypianka community. Honchar’s sculptural works are characterized by bold modeling of form, dynamic compositions, and portraits depicting clearly defined characters.
“I would like everything I have collected and created to become a single, permanently operating museum, on the basis of which current and future generations would be educated”, – said Ivan Honchar. And his will is being implemented – the museums help new generations learn about the whole of Ukraine telling about Ukrainian culture in modern language. In 1969, a bust of Taras Shevchenko by Ivan Honchar was installed in the center of the village near the cultural center.
Mykola Tomenko (1937-2017) – a Ukrainian poet, novelist, playwright, publicist, and journalist – is another well-known resident of the community. He is the author of 25 books of poetry, prose, plays, honored artist of Ukraine, and combatant. The Mykola Tomenko All-Ukrainian Literary Award has been established in his honor.
Economy and Welfare
The priority and main industry in the Lypianka rural community is the cultivation of agricultural crops and animal husbandry. Growing vegetables and beekeeping are also important here.
The agrarian sector, represented by various enterprises, prevails on the territory of the community. These are large agricultural holdings that rent land plots, and small farms or individual producers who have their own equipment and warehouses.
Enterprise “Lan” is a harmonious combination of cultivation of agricultural crops and animal husbandry.
The village of Antonivka has the Shpolianska Fish Breeding Station (an agricultural limited liability company) which grows and sells fish (pike, grass carp, common carp, silver carp, etc.).
The community has a social services center which provides social services to the vulnerable population of the community. A veteran space has been created at the institution, which takes care of the issues of veterans and their family members, members of active, fallen, missing, and captured defenders of Ukraine. The position of a specialist accompanying war veterans and demobilized persons is now being launched.
Community and War
After the start of the full-scale invasion, a significant number of residents of the community stood up to defend Ukraine.
Here they do everything possible and necessary to win and end the war. People always respond to the requests to collect products, funds, weave camouflage nets and otherwise meet the needs of the soldiers who are fighting against the cruel enemies of our state.
Charity concerts and fairs are also organized by the employees of the Cultural and Art Center of the Lypianka Village Council and educational institutions. The collected funds are used for the purchase of structures for camouflage nets, as well as for the needs of defenders.
From the first days of the war, the community accepted internally displaced persons. They were offered housing both by the residents of the community and by the administration.
In April 2023, for the first time, the community accepted IDPs on the second floor of the operational district hospital of the Lypianka Village Council. It has 16 living rooms, which can accommodate 34 people, equipped space for cooking, storing and eating. The rooms are equipped with all the necessary furniture, appliances, and essentials.
Also, humanitarian aid is constantly provided to internally displaced persons who do not live at places of temporary residence, but reside in private houses on the territory of the community.
With the help of the community administration, agricultural producers and residents of the community, cargoes containing food, protective equipment, military ammunition, camouflage nets and other necessary items are constantly sent via volunteers.
The Village Council provides all possible material and financial support to the family members of soldiers defending our sovereignty.
Near the main building in the center of the community, the Alley of Glory was opened to honor the fallen soldiers of the community. Its creation and opening involved both entrepreneurs and caring residents.
To ensure the safety of participants in the educational process, shelters are arranged in all educational institutions where children, teachers and employees can hide during air raids.
People of the Community
Shablii Anatolii is an acting head of the community.
On his initiative, the Alley of the Fallen Soldiers was opened in the community, and most of the social institutions in the community were repaired. He always caters to the needs of people and businesses, actively supports the volunteer movement and always responds to the requests of defenders of Ukraine for help.
For the residents of the community, it is important to observe Ukrainian traditions, which is why various events and activities are held here every year in the atmosphere of ancient life: St. Andrew’s evenings, Whitsunday, Ivan Kupala, etc.
Every year, residents organize tolokas (joint works) and days for cleaning the community territories.
Until February 22, 2022, the Community Day, Children’s Protection Day and village days were held every year on the territory of the community. These were important events that united generations and villages for fun activities that encouraged both younger and older generations to preserve and popularize Ukrainian national heritage.

Here they believe in a better future and are headed for victory. Therefore, in 2023, work was started on the development of a new strategy, taking into account all the challenges. A working group was created and the opinions of community residents and businesses were taken into account.
On August 27, 2024, the community approved its new Development Strategy.
Investment attraction, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, provision of high quality of life, modernization and development of infrastructure, improvement of energy efficiency, increase of awareness and social activity of residents were chosen as the main areas.
The strength of the Lypianka community is in its powerful agricultural potential, which is why the primary task is to support businesses that develop, increase jobs and replenish the community’s budget. Community leadership and administration are considering comprehensive support and increased funding of local programs for the development of local businesses and rural areas.
The community has premises and lands for the creation of new enterprises, which in the future will help improve the lives and conditions of the residents of the community, and the increased revenue part of the budget from the activities of the enterprises will help implement all project ideas, which is why the administration of the community and the deputy corps always respond to wishes of business representatives and provide comprehensive support.
