History
The village of Mykolaivka was founded around 1689 on the territory of the Sumy Regiment by immigrants from the Hetmanate. Mykolaivka was first mentioned in historical documents in 1730.
According to folk tales, the name of the village comes from the name of the Cossack Mykola, who was one of the first to settle in these lands. There is also a version that the village was named by a local landowner in honor of his son.
Handicraft production had long been developed there, grain crops were grown, and horses and cattle were bred.
In 1824, the landowner Tymchenkova built a brick church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the 19th century, the palace of the landowner Kalugin was also located in the center of the village (both buildings were destroyed during the revolutionary events of 1917–1918).
The Pryanishnikovs’ Estate is located on the territory of the community – a historical complex on the banks of the Rohizna River in the village of Rohizne. The estate included a palace, a house for servants, outbuildings, a park, a church, a family crypt and many workshops that produced various products.
Economy and Welfare
The main areas of activity of the community are agricultural production, in particular the cultivation of grain crops and animal husbandry. Due to the favorable natural conditions of the area, the community actively develops agriculture, which is the basis of its economy.
The Mykolaivka rural community has a favorable territorial location and extensive road connections.
More than 90 small and medium-sized enterprises operate in the community. The vast majority are engaged in agriculture and trade.
The largest enterprises in the community include:
“Indychka” – a modern enterprise engaged in the cultivation, processing, packaging and logistics of finished turkey meat products.
“Moloko Vitchyzny” – a company, engaged in the production of milk, meat, and organic fertilizers.
There are 7 education institutions in the community: a lyceum, 3 gymnasiums, and 2 preschool institutions. There are also 10 cultural centers and 7 libraries on the territory of the community.
Medical assistance to community residents is provided by the Family Medicine General Practice Outpatient Clinic in the village of Postolne and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Family Medicine General Practice Outpatient Clinic in the village of Mykolaivka.
Community and War
The Mykolaivka rural community met the full-scale invasion with resilience and cohesion. Despite the threat of destruction, residents quickly organized humanitarian headquarters to support the military. Volunteers are collecting food, warm clothing, and medicines.
Mutual aid is especially valued in the community: residents provide shelter, farmers help with food, and local initiatives support the army. Festive events and cultural events are held even during wartime to support the morale.
Community People
Serhii Samotoi is the head of the community. He has held this position since 2010.
Improving the condition of public infrastructure, installing modern street lighting, and repairing rural roads became the main areas of work in the community. The new lighting improved the safety and comfort of residents, especially in the evening. Road repairs ensured the accessibility of the community’s population centers, facilitating movement and transport connections.
An important achievement was the purchase of a grader, which greatly facilitated the maintenance of rural roads, especially in hard-to-reach places.
The community received important humanitarian aid in the form of a fire truck. It significantly strengthened the community’s ability to respond promptly to emergencies, ensure fire safety and protect residents’ property. The fire truck is also used for rescue operations, which is especially important in difficult war conditions.
The Mykolaivka rural community constantly hosts cultural events organized by the culture department. These include holiday concerts, exhibitions, and other social activities aimed at supporting the morale of the population in wartime.
The Mykolaivka community launched a new event — “Varenyk-FEST.” The festival was a great opportunity for everyone to come together, taste traditional varenyks, exchange recipes, and feel the support of the community even in difficult times.
Development Strategy
In 2021, the Village Council approved the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Mykolaivka Village Council until 2027. The following areas of community development were identified:
- increasing the economic capacity of the community,
- creating comfortable conditions for community life.
The community plans to create a modern infrastructure for the effective collection and disposal of waste. To this end, they plan to build specialized sites and install garbage collection containers.
