History
The Poromiv community is located in the picturesque region of Volyn, which has deep historical roots dating back to the times of Kyivan Rus.
Archaeological research on the territory of the community indicates that people inhabited these lands for many centuries. Because of its strategic location, this region has been part of various state entities throughout history, including the Principality of Galicia-Volyn, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Empire. Each of these stages left its mark on the culture and traditions of the community.
The central village of the community – Poromiv – has played an important role in the development of agriculture in the region since the 19th century. Volyn’s fertile soils contributed to intensive agriculture, in particular the cultivation of grain crops, and the development of animal husbandry. Thanks to this, the village became a key agricultural center of Volyn, which provided local residents with stable earnings.
At the same time, local residents preserved their national traditions and actively participated in liberation movements, in particular during the First and Second World Wars. Many of them distinguished themselves in the defense of their homeland, which is an integral part of the historical memory of the community.
After the Second World War, when Volyn became part of the Soviet Union, the community remained mainly agrarian, but economic development received a new impetus thanks to the mining industry. Coal mines operated on the territory of the community, which became the main sources of jobs for local residents. This contributed to the growth of the population and the creation of new infrastructure facilities.
With Ukraine’s independence in 1991, the Poromiv community gradually began to look for new ways of development. Agriculture remained an important industry, but entrepreneurship began to develop actively, and new initiatives in the field of small and medium-sized businesses appeared. Decentralization was a particularly important stage, thanks to which the community received more powers and resources for self-management.
Today, the Poromiv community is actively working on the development of infrastructure, attracting investments and creating new jobs. Local initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of life of residents, developing educational and cultural programs, as well as preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the community. Fertile lands, rich history and active local self-government make the Poromiv area a promising place for the development of agribusiness, tourism and other industries.
Economy and Welfare
The economy of Poromiv community has strong roots in agriculture, mining industry and entrepreneurship. Thanks to the fertile lands, the community has become a center of farming, where grain crops and vegetables are actively grown. The products of local farmers have always been in demand not only in the Volyn region, but also beyond, being regularly sold at fairs.
The mining industry is also a key sector, especially coal mining, which has provided a significant number of jobs and contributed to economic stability for decades. In addition, the community develops small entrepreneurship: local companies produce building materials and are actively engaged in trade, which additionally strengthened the economic potential of the area.
With the beginning of the war, the economic situation in the community underwent serious tests, but the local residents did not lose their resilience. Farmers continue to work, ensuring food security for both the community and the country as a whole. Many businesses have refocused on supporting volunteer initiatives, providing resources and assisting the front.
The community is also taking steps to attract new investment aimed at rebuilding the post-war economy. Despite all the challenges, the Poromiv community demonstrates its ability to adapt and is actively planning recovery and further development after the victory.
Community and War
The Poromiv community, like many other population centers in Ukraine, was deeply shocked when the war started. But at the same time it demonstrated incredible resilience. From the first days of the russian invasion, residents united to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and ensure the protection of their land. A volunteer movement was quickly organized here, which became a powerful tool for helping both the military and the civilian population.
Local farmers, entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens began to collect food, clothing, medical supplies and other necessary items for those who found themselves in difficult conditions. Residents of the community actively participate in weaving camouflage nets, collecting funds for body armor, thermal imagers and other equipment for the front. Many residents of the community became volunteers and some went to the front line to defend Ukraine.
Despite the difficult conditions of wartime, the Poromiv community preserved its coherence and strength of spirit. The community not only helps the army, but also supports internally displaced persons who found refuge on its territory, providing them with housing, food and psychological support.
Today, the Poromiv community continues to live and work in the conditions of war, demonstrating an example of courage and self-sacrifice. Local residents believe in the victory of Ukraine and work to bring it closer, making their contribution to the common cause of resistance to aggression.
People of the Community
Oleh Savchuk, the Head of the Poromiv community in Volyn, became Ukraine’s youngest community head at the age of 24. Before his election, he was engaged in business in the agricultural sector, which allowed him to win the trust of local farmers. During his leadership, Oleh focused on the development of communal infrastructure, the purchase of new equipment, and the implementation of an effective system of waste collection and disposal.
The Poromiv community is proud of its residents, who made a significant contribution to the development of their native land and Ukraine in general. It is the community of people who have achieved success in various fields – culture, education, volunteering and, of course, in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
Before the war, the community was noted for its active life and cohesion. Festivals of national culture were held annually, where local residents sang folk songs, danced and presented handicrafts. Sports competitions encouraged young people to lead an active lifestyle and Independence Day celebrations included concerts, patriotic events and tributes to fallen soldiers.
With the beginning of the war, the community reoriented its efforts to support the army and the displaced people. Volunteers organized humanitarian meetings, collected funds for the military and helped internally displaced persons who found refuge in the community. Cultural events gave way to charity events and concerts in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Local residents actively participate in volunteer activities: they weave camouflage nets, collect food and medicine for the front.
Even in wartime, life in the community continues: residents preserve traditions, support each other and work for our common victory.
Development Strategy
Despite the military actions, the Poromiv community successfully implemented several important projects, in particular in the field of energy efficiency, by installing solar panels on public buildings. This not only reduces energy costs, but also contributes to the environmental sustainability of the region.
Agricultural industry, green energy, and tourism remain promising areas of community development. The unique wealth of local nature and historical monuments creates great opportunities for attracting tourists and developing ecological tourism.
In addition, the Poromiv community actively supports international relations with sister cities in Poland. These connections contribute to the exchange of experiences, cultural cooperation and support in wartime, which is important for the further development of the community.
