The Ternivka Urban Territorial Community includes two settlements: the town of Ternivka and the village of Zelena Dolyna.
History
The first written mention of Ternivka dates back to 13 July 1774. The settlement was founded as a transit point on the road from Balaievska Tower to Bakhmut and developed as a rural settlement.
The transformation of Ternivka into a town started following the industrial mining of coal deposits. In 1952, the construction of the first exploratory and operational mine near the village of Ternivka began, and the first tons of “black gold” were mined in June 1959. In 1976 (on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of Dnipropetrovsk), Ternivka was given the status of a town.
The community honors its heroes. A large commemorative Memorial to those killed in World War II was installed in Ternivka. And there is also a plaque honoring the fallen soldiers of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014-2022. The town has a local history museum, where one can learn about the history and life of the community.
Economy and Welfare
Two mines “Ternivska” and “Zakhidno-Donbaska” operate in the town. They are the town-forming enterprises.
Culture:
The town is rich in singers and poets who support folk customs and local traditions. Thanks to the effective work of the local authorities and residents, in 2018 the community launched its annual urban festival “Great Intercession Fair” held on 14 October – a date that combines three holidays: the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God, the Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.
The urban festival “Great Intercession Fair” is an exclusive event in the town. This is an open-air event that gathers masters of folk art, talented residents, creative teams of the town and the area around it where the charity fair is held.
Talented amateur teams work in the town. The team of Nika acrobatic rock and roll band is a regular participant and winner of the regional, Ukrainian national and international competitions and festivals. Its members take first places and are Grand Prix laureates.
Sport:
There are 13 physical culture and health clubs in Ternivka. Handball, football, volleyball, karate, judo, arm sports, acrobatic rock and roll and others are developed here.
The children’ and youth sports school “TEMP” is a special pride of the town. Handball players of the national level are trained here, and graduates of the football department play in the famous football clubs of Ukraine.
Community and War
Since russian federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ternivka has hosted more than 5 thousand Ukrainians who were forced to flee the war and move to safer communities. The Ternivka Community tries to do everything possible to make everyone who finds shelter in the city feel comfortable. For this purpose, the Territorial Center of Social Services was created to provide assistance to socially disadvantaged residents.
Since 24 February 2022, the center has fruitfully cooperated with international organizations and the regional military administration and provides support to internally displaced persons in the form of humanitarian aid.
From the first days of the war, the “Ternivka Urban Youth Center” (unofficial name – “InTern”) turned into a center of humanitarian aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the territorial defense units and internally displaced persons. The youth center devotes every day to volunteering. Charitable aid for the evacuated population is collected and distributed here; legal assistance is provided free of charge; the military is supported; promotions and fairs are held to raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Moreover, on the basis of the city youth center, the “Children’s Smile” project was launched, organized for children who, together with their parents, were forced to leave their homes. Specialists hold creative master classes for children, help them adapt faster to a new place, make friends and strengthen faith in Victory.
