Bukachivtsi Territorial Community

Population:
The community includes 13 settlements.
The settlement of Bukachivtsi is located between the Dnister and the Svirzh rivers. Also, the newly reconstructed Lviv-Ivano-Frankivsk highway passes near the settlement.
The surface area of the community is 140.88 square kilometres.
The population of the territorial community is 4,785 people, including:
women – 2,463;
men – 2,322;
children – 579;
internally displaced persons as of 01 January 2023 – 78.
History
Bukachivtsi was first mentioned in writing in 1438, and in 1489 it was granted the Magdeburg rights.
In 1932-1934, Bukachivtsi became a village, and in 1940 – an urban-type settlement. In 1939-1959, it was a district centre and then became part of the Rohatyn District; in 2020 the settlement was included in the Ivano-Frankivsk District.
In the late 16th century, a Roman Catholic shrine was built in Bukachivtsi, which later was part of various parishes. In 1747, thanks to the owner of the town, Franciszek Luszczewski, a small wooden church of All Saints was built and a parish was founded; the castle chapel was dismantled.
There is a mill in the territory of the community, which was built in the 19th century. Bricks for the construction of this mill were brought from Austria by a newly built railway track. It was re-equipped three times: at first, it was built as a water-powered mill; after the channel of the Svirzh River changed it was remade into a steam-powered one, and later made electric.
People came to this mill from all over the area because it was only there that semolina flour was made for local delicacies, local semolina pies.
Economy and Wellbeing
Clay is mined in the territory of the Bukachivtsi territorial community. The community is also rich in water resources, forests, natural landscape, recreational areas, sanctuaries and nature reserves.
A significant part of the territory is used for agriculture development. There are 21 shops in the community, including 15 grocery stores and 6 household stores.
The community is only 60 km away from the Ivano-Frankivsk International Airport and the Bukachivtsi intermediate station of the Lviv Railway.
The Bukachivtsi Settlement Council uses the Prozorro electronic procurement system, which is designed to make procurement for public funds open and transparent.
Sausage businesses in Bukachivtsi have a long history. The old-timers claim that small sausage manufactories making meat products have been operating there since long ago.
To date, production of meat delicacies is well developed in the Bukachivtsi community, which are in demand not only within the community but also in the territory of the Sub-Carpathian region and even beyond.
Five large production facilities operate in the community. There are also dozens of small manufacturers. Sausage manufacturers have their own patented author’s recipes.
According to Tamara Harhat, the project manager of the Bukachivtsi community, the community wants to become the largest sausage production centre in Ukraine. The production facilities currently produce 2 – 3 tons of meat products per day.
Moreover, the Bukachivtsi community has the largest slaughter house in the western region and cattle of elite breeds are grown there.
At the primary level, medical services in the community are provided by two family practice outpatient clinics and seven healthcare centres. The Bukachivtsi Hospital has a capacity of 20 beds and there is an emergency medicine centre at the Bukachivtsi Community Security Centre with a community police officer.
There is one lyceum with a branch, two grammar schools with preschool groups, as well as one kindergarten attended by 33 children in the Bukachivtsi territorial community, with almost 435 children attending these institutions. In addition, there are two school buses in the Bukachivtsi Lyceum, one of which was received with the help of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration. The community transferred its previous school bus to the front.
In the territory of the community, each settlement has playgrounds, some made at the expense of the local budget, and three of them having been made by using an infrastructure subsidy.
Community and War
The war for the Bukachivtsi community began on 24 February 2022. The basis was volunteering, the educational establishments wore nets, the local cafe began to make dumplings, salads, energy bars and bake pastries for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition to the culinary front and assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, much attention is paid to internally displaced persons in the community as these are people deprived of their homes; a program for them to familiarize with the traditions of the region, participate in the production of local brand dolls was developed by the settlement council.
In wartime, local journalist Mykhailo Mazur organized a photo exhibition at the local culture centre for internally displaced persons.
The exhibition was visited by people who, due to the hostilities, moved to the territory of the community from the war zone, and young Kharkiv residents Denys and Milena even assisted in organizing the exhibition.
Head of the Community
The head of the community is Oleksandra Viter-Lubevych. From 2003 to 2015, she worked at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. In 2015, she was elected head of the village of Cherniv. From 2018 to 2020, she was acting starosta of the village. Since November 2020, she has been working as head of the Bukachivtsi Territorial Community.
Development Strategy
The community has adopted the community development strategy for 2020-2027.
The main priorities of the strategy include:
- Improving the efficiency of personal farms
- Labour mechanization
- Setting up united cooperatives and clusters
Another priority for the community is the development of tourism and recreation. The community and its tourist landmarks should be a must-have part of the tourist potential of the Ivano-Frankivsk area.

- there are tourist flows across the Ivano-Frankivsk Region (in particular, Yaremche and Bukovel)
- a large number of sites and landmarks interesting for tourists
- access to the Dnister River with its powerful tourist potential
- community investments in the development of tourist infrastructure – biker itineraries, pointers, recreation areas, roads, promotion of rural green tourism development (homesteads)
- a lack of leisure and recreation sites in the Bukachivtsi community working throughout the year
- a possibility to buy natural products of local manufacturers and households
- a possibility to train skilled specialists at the Burshtyn Trade and Economic College
- available premises for hostels, hotels, land in picturesque areas for campsites and recreation centres
- organization of events for tourists in the community, including the Sausage-Fest, whose project was developed with the assistance of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund, the Beer, Bread, Meat project of the restaurant-museum developed by the community with the assistance of U-LEAD with Europe.
