History

The community administrative center is the settlement of Berehomet, the first mentions of which date back to 1696, however, it is likely that the settlement here arose in the 15th century.

The calling card of Berehomet is Mount Malyi Stizhok (784 m above sea level), which can be seen from afar and greets guests at the entrance to the settlement. The mountain is associated with a legend about the leader of the peasant uprising, Oleska Dovbush, who allegedly hid here the treasures looted from the rich.

Economy and Welfare

Forestry and tourism industries form the basis of the economy of Berehomet community. Berehomet is a kind of gateway to the Carpathians. Here, 74% of the community area is occupied by forests. Accordingly, the branch of woodworking is well developed – there are 169 woodworking shops and sawmills in the community.

There is a railway track with a length of more than 11 km on the territory of the community and an intermediate freight station. This contributes to the development of business and tourism.

The largest enterprise located on the territory of the community is the Berehomet Forest Hunting Range, a branch of the State-Owned Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, which employs almost 500 people.

There are also enterprises in the community that specialize in the manufacture of wooden products.

The Berehomet community has deposits of building stone, which were and remain the wealth of the area and are used in construction.

There are 12 agro-industrial enterprises and peasant farms operating in the community, most of which are engaged in the cultivation of spring and winter wheat, corn, soybeans and barley.

The state institution “Lopushno Aquatic Trout Plant” (1928) operates on the territory of the community, which works on the reproduction of aquatic living resources – it grows Kamloops trout and rainbow trout for further stocking of the Dniester reservoir, as well as brook trout for stocking of the Carpathian mountain rivers.

There are oil fields on the territory of the community that are being developed.

No less developed is the service sector, which is largely focused on tourists. Therefore, the community has 36 restaurant businesses, 1 market, 13 hotels, 4 gas stations, numerous hairdressers, beauty salons, bakeries, a developed retail network, and pharmacies.

The Berehomet community has an extraordinary tourist potential for mountain recreation. There are rapid mountain rivers, rocks, healing springs and well-developed tourist infrastructure.

A special mention should go to the Myhove Ski and Tourist Complex. The complex is located at an altitude of 500 m above sea level. Thanks to the good geographical location, the snow here falls quite early and lasts until March. The main highlight of the resort is an extensive system of hotels and restaurants. There are also ski slopes and lifts. In addition, the community has a number of recreation centers that specialize in various types of leisure activities, namely: hiking in the mountains, rock climbing, river rafting, horseback riding and much more.

The presence of the Vyzhnytsia National Nature Park in the community (spreading over the Vyzhnytsia and Berehomet communities) ensures special prospects for the development of tourism.

The community is rich in the most diverse geological monuments of nature – rocks, caves, rivers, cascades of waterfalls, healing springs, etc.

The beauty of the community is the Arboretum established in 1890 by the famous Vasylky family. The two golden larch trees are the jewels of the park, which grow only in the Yangtze River Delta in China. This is the only place in Ukraine where these rare exotics grow.

Community and War

The full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine affected all spheres of life. The rate of economic development has decreased both at the national level and on the territory of the community.

From the first days of the full-scale war, hundreds of residents of the community stood up for the defense of Ukraine. Unfortunately, the community has already lost 55 soldiers in the war, there are also many wounded and missing.

But everyone is aiming for victory and the community leadership team and all the people help the army every day. The community regularly purchases everything necessary for the front, repairs military vehicles, and transports aid to the east.

Also, in the context of the war, it is worth noting the work with internally displaced persons. From the very beginning, the Berehomet community opened its doors to fellow citizens fleeing the war. Currently, the number of IDPs has decreased to 248 people. Some went further abroad, and some returned to their native home or to relatives. All displaced persons living in the community are provided with housing, necessary humanitarian aid, are socially protected and are constantly under the supervision of the settlement council.
