A milestone for Phoenix4UA, an initiative of Cities4Cities United4Ukraine: the last vehicle of 2023

On 24 January, the last vehicle was handed over as part of our Phoenix4UA (2023) project, which we successfully completed thanks to funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

At a time when Ukraine continues to struggle with the challenges of the ongoing war, we are delighted to hand over a second-hand fire engine to a dedicated Ukrainian driver for the community of Podilsk in Odessa Oblast.

The vehicle has also been loaded with many relief supplies, including food and hygiene articles, procured by the city of Sindelfingen. These relief supplies are distributed in Ukraine between the needy communities in the Kherson Oblast. This region is still suffering badly from the devastating consequences of the Russian missile attacks, which have severely affected the livelihoods of the local people.

In addition, donations in kind for internally displaced persons in Podilsk were also loaded into the vehicle as part of this delivery. These donations are a further sign of solidarity and support for those who have had to leave their homes due to the war and have found refuge in Podilsk.

In total, we managed to hand over no fewer than 80 used municipal vehicles to 35 Ukrainian municipalities in 2023. These included not only fire engines, but also vans, ambulances and other municipal technology that helped to save lives, eliminate the consequences of the rocket attacks and promote mobility in the communities.

The feedback from Ukraine is always full of gratitude and shows how important our work is. Municipal vehicles remain at the top of the priority list of needs of more than 500 Ukrainian municipalities on our platform.

Together we can both help people in need and provide active support for reconstruction.
