History

The administrative center is the town of Storozhynets. The first mentions of the town date back to 1448.

Storozhynets is the second most populous town in the Chernivtsi region (14,136 people), and today the territorial community is one of the largest in the region, both in terms of area and population. It is located at the intersection of transport routes between the regional center and the Ukrainian-Romanian state border (crossing point “Krasnoilsk”).

Storozhynets is spread out on the left bank of the Siret mountain river at the foot of the Bukovyna Carpathians and can confidently claim the title of the greenest town of Bukovyna. The town has Bukovyna’s most picturesque arboretum, Austrian buildings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, religious buildings of various denominations and administrative buildings.

The Arboretum is a natural monument of national significance. The Park was founded in 1912 by the Orensteins, the most influential Jewish family at the time, on the site of a natural forest where valuable and rare tree species grew. The palace of the 19th century has been preserved here. It is the estate of the founders of the park, the Orenstein family. In 1945, an educational institution – Storozhynets Forestry College – was established on the basis of the park.

The community has 17 villages, all of which without exception are spread among hills, streams and forests and are incredibly picturesque.

The proximity of the border with Romania, a country of the European Union, promotes the development of partnership relations between municipalities and personal friendships on an interpersonal level.
