History

The Krynychky territorial community has a rich history. It started to be settled in the 1st century BC at the latest. Archaeologists found and studied burial mounds of the Sarmatians on the territory of the modern settlement which was founded in this place in the second half of the 18th century.

The name “Krynychky” (Eng: “small wells”) is associated with the presence of a large number of non-freezing springs with tasty drinking water in the valley of the Mokra Sura River and nearby streams. The first settlers and travelers along the Chumak route dug temporary wells. Another name – Krynychuvatka – was used here in parallel for a long time.

At the beginning of the 20th century, socio-economic changes contributed to the development of Krynychky as a trade center. Shops appeared in the settlement and fairs were held three times a year (in March, May and September).

During the 1920s, collectivization took place in Krynychky and nearby settlements. The collective farm “Red Giant” was created, which was later divided into several smaller ones. During the Holodomor organized by the Soviet authorities in 1932-1933, at least 294 residents died in the settlement.

During the Second World War, from August 16, 1941 to October 27, 1943, Krynychky was occupied by German-fascist invaders. In 1958, the settlement of Krynychky received the status of an urban-type settlement.

The Saint Michael’s Church is the architectural decoration of the Krynychky community. It was built in 1796 and has a rich history. During the time of the Bolsheviks, the temple was used as a grain storehouse. During the Second World War, the temple was slightly damaged, leaving traces on its walls. Inside, there is a miraculous icon that was found in the bell tower of the church. The Saint Michael’s Church is an important historical and cultural monument that attracts tourists and is a symbol of the community’s spiritual wealth.

The church was built in the style of Classicism. In 1938, the bell tower was dismantled, but thanks to local residents, the church was saved. In 1989, the Holy Ascension Church was restored. Today, it is an important architectural and cultural monument that preserves the spiritual heritage of the region.
