The first written mention of the population center is associated with Brody mentioned in Grand Prince Volodymyr Monomakh’s Instruction to His Children. Here, in the spring and winter of 1084, meetings between Chernihiv Prince Volodymyr Monomakh and Volyn Prince Yaropolk Iziaslavych took place.

The town owes its name to the swampy area and crossings that existed here (“Brody” translates as “fording sites” in English).
