Initially, it was the Tatar settlement of Akkadzha. After the Russian occupation, in 1791, the Tatars were evicted from here, or maybe they left themselves, and in 1802, the village was settled by German colonists, invited to the conquered lands by the tsarist government. Then the settlement received a new name – Gross Liebenthal – the great valley of love.
The settlement arose as a small hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century (1804). As of 1886, 3,869 people lived in the German colony of Gross-Libenthal, the center of Gross-Libenthal Volost, Odesa County, Kherson Province.
Among the architectural monuments in the settlement, the former Lutheran and now Orthodox church (built in the 1860s) has been preserved.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the lives of all Ukrainians have changed. Many residents of Velykodolynske are defending Ukraine, and those who remained in the rear are helping and supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine with all their might. Residents of the community constantly hold charity fairs, the collected funds are allocated for the needs of the Armed Forces. They are also involved in the collection of essential items for the military, and teams of educational institutions weave camouflage nets.
Since the beginning of the war, the community has sheltered more than 1,500 displaced people. All conditions have been created for providing the necessary material, legal, and informational assistance from the community and international charitable organizations. They created Points of Invincibility and heating, which are equipped with generators. Schools and kindergartens were equipped with safe shelters and everything necessary.
People of the Community
Mykola Ivanovych has been the head of the Velykodolynske settlement council since November 2020. The head actively participates in community life. From the first days of the war, he organized volunteer humanitarian headquarters and assistance to servicemen and their families.
Before the war, the community’s territory was actively improved: the area around the multi-apartment buildings was laid with tiles, and wooden windows were replaced with metal-plastic ones to save energy.
In the Teremok kindergarten, the facade of the building was insulated to save energy.
They developed a general plan and a zoning plan for the territory of the community to attract investment in construction.
During the war, a video surveillance and video recording system with a face recognition function was installed in educational institutions. Such measures should increase the general level of security in educational institutions, prevent possible offenses and acts of a criminal nature. In addition, in educational and cultural institutions of the Velykodolynske settlement council, shelters were renovated in order to enable off-line study.
Development Strategy
A lot is done every day for the beautification and socio-economic development of the community. Work is always a team effort – settlement council deputies and specialists have come a long way, solving many problematic issues. Modern internet was installed in all schools. The children’s sports school stadium was reconstructed, street lighting was arranged and roads in the community were asphalted. They repaired roofs in schools, corridors and stairs, boiler rooms, and some classrooms in kindergartens.
The leadership of the community reaches its goals and keeps going. There are still many plans for the future: construction and development/implementation of an industrial park in the village of Molodizhne (the development of the concept for the location of the industrial park is ongoing); major repairs in some schools, replacement of windows and doors with energy-saving ones, reconstruction of the heating system; overhaul of the roof of the Culture Building; reconstruction of water treatment facilities and water drainage networks of communal enterprises; construction of artesian wells; construction of a drainage network to protect part of the Velykodolynske settlement from flooding.
