Komarno Territorial Community
The Komarno Territorial Community is located in the territory of the Lviv District of the Lviv Region.
The total area of the community: 186.9 km2
Population: 13,779 people.

- Population aged 19-60: 7,117 people
- Population over 60 years old: 4,745 people
The Community consists of 22 communities.
History
The centre of the community is the town of Komarno. The first written mention dates back to 1471.
Having been granted the Magdeburg rights in 1473, the then village of Komarno automatically received the status of a town. In the same year, a castle was built in the town as well as the first wooden church.
The oldest architectural landmark in the Lviv Region is the monument at the entrance to Komarno. It was built in honour of a local landowner who died in a battle with the Tatars.
One of the most remarkable buildings of the community is the wooden Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin of 1603 located on a hill in the village of Klitsko.
Economy and Welfare
There are about 85 enterprises in the territory run by the Komarno Town Council, most of them are agricultural. Furthermore, more than 360 private small enterprises operate there.
The local largest enterprises grow agricultural crops: cereals, legumes, seed oil crops.
In addition, presently the main industrial facilities of the community include the Komarno linear and production directorate of the main gas pipelines “Lvivtransgaz” and the Komarno gas industry “Lvivgazvydobuvannia”.
The Komarno community is known for its enterprise producing Christmas tree decorations “Toy Factory”. Christmas accessories are popular with both the local residents and visitors. The company sells its products throughout Ukraine and abroad.
There are eight preschool education institutions in the community and one more kindergarten is planned to be built in the village of Buchaly. There are also 10 schools.
The Small Academy of Arts is active in the community. There is a music school, creative and sports clubs, a museum of the history of Komarno and the Komarno youth centre.
There are medical institutions in the community, namely the Komarno Municipal Polyclinic, the Komarno Municipal Hospital and the Primary Health Care Centre. After the creation of the territorial community, these institutions had to become autonomous, so now they need to improve their material and technical resources in order to serve patients at a high quality level.
The Komarno youth centre holds various trainings and events in the community and it often organizes them. The centre has been created to host the leisure activities of young people and permits them to develop from a young age skills such as high-quality communication, organization of events, participation in the social and political life of the community, volunteering, acting skills.
In the town of Komarno there is a People’s Drama Company “Theatre without a Name”. This is a team of talented people who bring together our community and the neighbouring communities around their creativity.
A nongovernmental organization “Revival of the Village of Hrimne” works in the village of Hrimne, which is an organization covering the current news and problems of the Hrimne starosta-headed district.
Community and War
Since the full-scale invasion began, the community has received refugees in the shelters:
– 53 people live at the hospital in the town of Komarno;
– a religious centre in the village of Peremozhne at the “Spark of Love” social centre, which provides free accommodation for up to 1.5 months for internally displaced persons.
In 2022, an initiative group of volunteers was organized to make camouflage nets for the Army. Some of them are still doing it.
Charitable events in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are regularly held in the community.
People of the Community
The head of the Komarno Territorial Community – Ihor Cherevychnyk – was elected during the snap election held in October 2021 and is presently the mayor.
Ihor Cherevychnyk takes an active part in the life of the Komarno Community, helps internally displaced persons, volunteers and tries to take into account the opinion of the community residents while making his decisions.

Implemented projects:
Since there is currently no fire station in the community, a volunteer fire brigade consisting of 4 people (employees of the hospital and the town council) was formed in April 2023. There are two fire engines and all the necessary equipment so that the guys could save people’s lives and buildings in time.
In 2023, the implementation of a strategic project for the community began – the reconstruction of the Monastyrets-Poliana bridge, which was destroyed back in 2008. The construction of the new bridge started back in the 2000s, but it was suspended. Thanks to the efforts of the head of the community together with the employees of the town council, government funds were obtained for the restoration of the bridge, which is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.
Energy efficiency is one of the priority areas of the community, which is why some institutions are switching to alternative energy sources. The municipal hospital has already started to use a solid fuel boiler, and now the same project is being implemented in the Blooming Cherry kindergarten in the village of Peremozhne.
Development Strategy
Today, the community is actively working to draft the Community Development Strategy until 2027. A working group was created, which includes the employees of the town council, counsellors, representatives of businesses, nongovernmental organizations, and local residents. They plan to approve and start implementing the Strategy document in January 2024.

At the moment, the main areas of the community development include: education development, energy efficiency, economic efficiency, quality medicine.
Priority objectives of the local authorities:
– Completion of a kindergarten in the village of Buchaly to increase the accessibility of the community residents to preschool education
– Reconstruction of the roof of the building and insulation of the facade of the polyclinic in the town of Komarno
– Upgrading the material and technical resources of medical institutions
– Reconstruction of the central part of the town to increase its functionality
– Increase the economic attractiveness of the community to attract local businesses
