The history of the Mahdalynivka area began in 1775, when the Zaporozhian Sich was abolished and the lands were distributed to landowners. In 1778, landowner Andrii Mahdenko received the lands of Mahdalynivka. In the autumn of 1778, Andrii Mahdenko and four families of immigrants from the Poltava region built mazanka huts here and began to develop the virgin land.

Historical documents state that Mahdenko founded the village in the name of the saint Mary Magdalene. Mahdenko’s manor estate was located on the site of the modern buildings of the Mahdalynivka oil factory. Neither trade nor postal routes passed near Mahdalynivka; it was the back of beyond then.

The son of Andrii Mahdenko built the temple in 1821, but later it was blown up by order of the local authorities. Almost 60 years later, in 1991, the St. Nicholas Church was revived.

Community and War

The community met February 24 cohesively. Everyone is still in their place, doing their job and bringing the country closer to Victory.

Since the beginning of the war, more than 1,000 internally displaced persons have arrived in the community. The authorities, entrepreneurs and residents joined their efforts and coped with the accommodation and support of internally displaced persons. The powerful organization of temporary accommodation, the work of community workers and volunteers to provide people with everything they need made it possible to manage the extremely difficult situation that arose with the beginning of russian aggression.

The stable work of the community in the conditions of martial law is impossible without volunteer support and the help of ordinary residents. Preschool and general education institutions were involved in preparing food. As a result, they were able to provide food products of their own production to all vulnerable sections of the community’s population and send food products to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The community actively joined the all-Ukrainian initiative Gardens of Victory. More than 30 hectares of land were cultivated by the Mahdalynivka community. The first harvests from communal plots were allocated to meet the needs of volunteer activities and support the social sphere and hospitals.
