History
The emergence of Markivka dates back to the late 17th-early 18th centuries. A settlement arose here then, which acquired the status of a Cossack settlement over time.
In 1708, Markivka was destroyed by the army of Prince Dolgoruky for the participation of the inhabitants in the popular uprising. Only after 25 years, the settlement began to revive.
The population bred horses, oxen, pigs and mules. Sheep named Aidar gained wide popularity.
In 1907, a poor man, Avram Onoprienko, grew a beautiful onion. Doctor Zaitsev bought 50 wreaths of this vegetable from him and took them to Paris to present at an agricultural exhibition. As a result, the onion of the “Markivka” variety received a gold medal and gained world fame. Then it was exhibited at other exhibitions, including the world-famous one in 1912.
The main tourist location is the Cyril and Methodius Church. The church was built in the village of Tyshkivka in 1905 and a mini-brick factory was specially built for this purpose.
The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a vivid example of the combination of architectural styles of the modern era in Ukraine. In 2008, the temple was included in the State Register of Cultural Heritage of Ukraine.
There is a spring of mineral water near the village of Lisna Poliana. The water belongs to the group of medicinal and table waters, that is, it should be used as prescribed by a doctor.
Near the village of Markivka, there is a general zoological reserve of local importance – Heraskivskyi.
Groundhogs, onions and famous beekeepers are symbols of the community.

Community and War
In the northeast, the community borders russia and has been under occupation since the first day of the full-scale invasion.
From the first days of the occupation, the residents of the community united and started going to protest meetings. At that time, the residents believed that they would be able to stop the occupiers with peaceful protests and showed their pro-Ukrainian position with their actions. Unfortunately, these were only our hopes and dreams – the Markivka area is still occupied.
Many families left their homes for the territory controlled by Ukraine. Residents stood up for the defense of the state in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They have been on the front line since February 24, 2022.
The leadership team of the community relocated to Kyiv and continues to work for the benefit of Markivka residents. The Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance to IDPs from Luhansk Region has been opened, where people can receive legal, psychological and humanitarian assistance and services from the Employment Center and the Pension Fund.
It is a center where community residents come together to solve problems and prepare together to return home, and the team makes every effort to meet the needs of its adult residents and children.
Residents of the Markivka community are convinced of victory and are doing their best to bring it closer and are waiting to return home to the de-occupied Markivka community.
Here, plans are being made not only for the restoration of the community, but also for its development and modernization. The leadership team looks forward to the support and assistance of friendly countries to make the most of their experience and knowledge in building their community.

In modern realities, the residents of the community gather in regions that have become a temporary home. They hold charity races and organize charity concerts. All in order to raise funds for the Armed Forces and moral support of citizens.
Development Strategy
Our Strategic Plan for the development of the Markivka settlement territorial community for the period until 2027 has lost its relevance due to the full-scale invasion and temporary occupation of the community’s territories.
The development of the new Strategy requires a comprehensive analysis of the consequences of the war, the formation of priorities and strategic goals, taking into account the peculiarities of the present. Currently, it is impossible to carry out such work due to the temporary occupation of the territories.
The community actively cooperates with international donors and is open to international partnerships.
