History
The Petropavlivka community is located in the Synelnykove district of the Dnipropetrovsk region. It has a rich history that reflects the development of southern Ukraine. Founded in the 18th century, the settlement of Petropavlivka became an important trading point, connecting the steppe regions with large cities, in particular with Katerynoslav – the current city of Dnipro.
Over the centuries, this area was actively developed thanks to agriculture, which became the basis of the economic life of the community.
Historical documents testify to the active participation of local residents in the liberation wars of the 18th-19th centuries, which emphasizes the community’s struggle for freedom and independence.
Architectural monuments have been preserved on the territory of the settlement council, among which the St. Peter and Paul Church, built in the 19th century, stands out. It still remains an important spiritual center of the community.
The settlement is surrounded by picturesque natural landscapes. The Samara and Byk rivers flowing through the community are not only a source of water resources, but also an attractive place for recreation and tourism. Next to them are cozy natural areas that contribute to the development of ecotourism. Fans of fishing and hiking come here.
The historical significance of this area, combined with natural and architectural monuments, makes the Petropavlivka settlement council an attractive place for research, recreation and cultural development.
Economy and Welfare
The agricultural and industrial sectors play a key role in the economic development of the Petropavlivka settlement council thanks to its favorable geographical location. They provide employment for a significant part of the local population. 4,657 households operate on the territory of the community.
Community lands are actively leased by agricultural enterprises that use modern equipment and technologies for processing products. They also make extensive use of water resources for efficient agricultural production.
In addition to the agricultural sector, the Petropavlivka community invests in social development. Educational projects are aimed at modernizing local schools and kindergartens, in particular at improving their infrastructure and material and technical base. Medical institutions also receive the necessary support to provide modern equipment and improve the quality of medical services. Special attention is paid to support programs for internally displaced persons and veterans.
The community actively cooperates with international charitable organizations to implement social initiatives. Since September 2024, the project “Complex support of vulnerable population categories” has been implemented, aimed at improving living conditions for the most vulnerable groups of the community.
Community and War
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Petropavlivka community has become a temporary home for numerous displaced people from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Local volunteers and public organizations actively support Ukrainian fighters by providing necessary items and medicines. Community entrepreneurs have also made a significant contribution by donating critical equipment, such as off-the-road vehicles and drones, to support Ukraine’s defenders.
Currently, the community receives aid from the UN Food Program thanks to the support of the charity fund “Our Cause. Ukraine”. This aid is intended to support people with disabilities and low-income residents of the community.
Unfortunately, in the summer of 2022, the russian military attacked the village of Zaliznychne within the community. As a result, 25 residential buildings, a kindergarten, a school building and a shop were damaged.
People of the Community
Larysa Zamura has performed the duties of the head of the settlement council since 2021. She actively participates in social projects that contribute to the development of the community.
Under her leadership, the community team developed several strategic documents, including the Community Development Strategy, the Municipal Energy Plan, the Environmental Security and Adaptation to Climate Change Strategy, the Social Services Provision Strategy, and the Comprehensive Territorial Restoration Program. However, the war made its adjustments, and daily work of the acting settlement head is focused on solving the urgent problems of the community.
It has become a tradition in the settlement to organize tolokas – joint works – thanks to the initiatives of active youth and the support of the authorities. Also, on the initiative of war veterans and the Vostok sports club, sports competition “Battle of the Titans” is held here.
Workshops are held every week in the Petropavlivka branch of the Community Activity Center of Western Donbas with the support of DTEK Energo.
Every year, Petropavlivka hosts cultural events, such as festivals and fairs, that unite the community. Local masters of folk art demonstrate their works at these events, which contributes to the development of tourism. Despite all the challenges, the community continues to support its residents and work for their well-being.
Development Strategy
The Petropavlivka community has an approved Development Strategy until 2029 and a Comprehensive Recovery Program. The main priorities include as follows:
Creation of a favorable environment for business development and territory branding. Using the potential of chornozems for agro-industrial development and supporting fisheries thanks to the available water resources.
The soil of the Petropavlivka community, in particular black soil (chornozem), is ideal for the agricultural sector, which creates favorable conditions for growing agricultural crops. Water bodies on the territory of the community open opportunities for the development of fisheries. The agricultural enterprises of the community have sales not only within the region, but also beyond it.
The community also has historical, architectural and geographical advantages that can become the basis for the development of tourism. With the improvement of the investment and administrative climate, the Petropavlivka community can become an attractive business environment.
The further development of the community also depends on the effective use of agricultural potential and the restoration of business initiatives. For this purpose, it is necessary to create comfortable conditions for living and doing business, as well as to initiate measures for the development of the cooperative movement and entrepreneurship.
