The Pustomyty territorial community is located in the Lviv district, Lviv region.

The total area of the territory is 95.7 km2.
The population of the community is 15,121 people.
Including:
women: 8,468
men: 6,653 

528 IDPs as of September 1, 2023.

It includes 10 population centers. The administrative center of the community is located in the town of Pustomyty.

History 

The first mention of Pustomyty dates back to 1441 and can be found in the Lviv court book. In the 15th century, a trade route passed through the population center which enabled the town to develop.

The symbol of the town of Pustomyty depicts an ancient furnace, which indicates the historical industry of limestone mining and lime burning. Three heraldic coins reveal the name “Myto-Pustomyty” and symbolize three historical settlements – Pustomyty, Hlynna and Lisnevychi. The coins are also a sign of prosperity and generosity.

In the community, there is a park which is a monument of garden and park art of the 19th century. Its area is 3.5 hectares. There is also an architectural monument, the Manor House, which is located in the central part of the town and was built in the classicist style.

Another architectural landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Navariya. During its history, it was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In its final baroque form, the church appeared in 1774.

Lake Navariya is a favorite place for the townspeople to relax. Formerly the Shchyrets Reservoir, it was built in 1949. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 7.8 m. There is a children’s and youth school of the Olympic reserve and a sports rowing and sports canoeing base here. On the lake, they practice on dragon boats – large canoes with the head and tail of a dragon.

 Economy and Welfare

Manufacturing industry is the leading branch of the economy of the Pustomyty community. Among those represented here are the logistics and warehousing industry, the production of oil and meal, lifting and handling equipment, and ventilation systems. Some of them actively export their products to Italy, Denmark, Germany, Georgia, and Egypt.

The Oliyar Company, Ukraine’s leading producer of refined sunflower oil, operates in the Pustomyty community. By exporting sunflower oil to the countries of the EU, the Middle East, Canada, the USA and Africa, the manufacturer aims to prove that the phrase Made in Ukraine can sound proud and be associated with the best.

The CFT Ukraine Enterprise was founded in 2007. It is engaged in complex metal processing and produces transport conveyors, spare parts and industrial equipment for machine-building companies in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

ZFB Ukraine is one of Ukraine’s best companies engaged in the production and installation of aluminum window and door structures of any complexity and size.

The Malynivka Farm under the leadership of Vovk Petro is one of the leading producers of agricultural products in the community. This family farm grows potatoes, carrots, cabbage and other products from the so-called “borscht set”. The farm is a perfect example of a social business as it helps the community implement social and educational projects.

With the onset of a full-scale invasion, the community became a haven for businesses affected by the war and relocating their production facilities. One of them is BRAND ROOMIO LLC, a modern enterprise creating interior items: from cabinet furniture to the premium quality author’s furniture. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the enterprise has moved from the Kharkiv region to the village of Myloshevychi, Pustomyty community. And in just 2 months, it resumed its activities and was able to enter new markets not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

 Community and War

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the community actively welcomed and sheltered refugees. 210 places for temporary accommodation were arranged in communal institutions of the community. Currently, 528 IDPs live in the Pustomyty community.

Residents of the community, together with the town council, joined forces and help not only those affected by the war, but also the Armed Forces of Ukraine every day. They hold various gatherings and events and weave camouflage nets here.

The Town Council actively cooperates with the Volodymyr Sterniuk Charitable Foundation. The men and women of the community have joined the ranks of the Armed Forces and are defending Ukraine to bring our victory closer.

People of the Community

Since 2015, Oleh Serniak has been the head of the Pustomyty Town Council. He is interested in attracting investments to the community and improving social services for the residents of the Pustomyty Territorial Community.

The community regularly hosts sports competitions, art fairs, and group performances.

For 11 years, the International Lviv Kayaking and Canoeing Regatta have been held here. In 2023, more than 300 athletes from 14 regions of Ukraine took part in the competition.

Residents of the community are concerned about the environment, so several times a year they do big cleaning up and plant trees in the community.

Development Strategy

The community has an approved Development Strategy until 2027.

The main areas of strategic development in the community are competitive economy; comfortable infrastructure; quality services.

The community plans to build a modern Ukrposhta logistics terminal. The total area of the land plot, on which the automated sorting terminal will be built, is 8 hectares. The Lviv sorting terminal will become the main center for processing and sorting postal items in the Western region.

The community is focused on the development of infrastructure, as the number of residents is constantly growing, which forces to actively work on the construction of new schools, preschools, increasing the mileage of water supply and sewerage networks.

The sister town with which the community actively works is Gmina Józefów nad Wisłą (Poland). This year, the communities jointly prepared and submitted the first joint project for the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 Program.
