Prior to 1900, Sakhnovshchyna had been an important centre for exports of grain and other agricultural products. After the construction of the railway station, merchants moved to the Community, and the small village grew into a settlement with a strong flour mill industry within a few years.
In 1895, a church and parish school was opened in Sakhnovshchyna. Later, a polyclinic and a maternity section began to work there; a power plant was built, a library was opened, a machine-tractor station and a House of Culture were built there.
In 1992, the newly built Church of the Holy Intercession was consecrated.

In every school and kindergarten, the residents of the settlement collected humanitarian aid, wove camouflage nets and cooked meals for the military, volunteer units, displaced persons and everyone in need of it.
Since the first days of the war, the Community has joined its eforts to overcome the challenges of the war and help the Ukrainian defenders to win the victory as soon as possible. Its residents also help the neighbouring communities of the Kharkiv Region after their de-occupation.
The residents hold charity fairs to raise funds for the military. One of these fairs is “Make a Soldier Keep Warm”. The main goal of the event was not only to provide the residents of the Community with agricultural products at reduced prices, but also to raise funds to purchase fabric for sewing winter uniforms for defenders.
