The Terebovlia territorial community is located on the territory of Ternopil district, Ternopil region.

The total area of the territory is 44,088 square kilometers.
The population of the community is 30,090 people
IDPs: 835 people.

The community includes 28 population centers and has its administrative center in the town of Terebovlia.

History

Terebovlia is one of the oldest towns in Ukraine. The first historical mention of Terebovlia dates back to 1097 and can be found in the Tale of Bygone Years. Its historical names are Terebovl, Trembovlia, Trebevle.

During the time of Prince Vasyl Rostyslavych, the town was located under Zamkova Gora. Terebovlia is the ancient capital of the Principality of Terebovlia.

Terebovlia Castle, a fortification in the town of Terebovlia, is a historical monument of national significance. The first fortifications in Terebovlia were built in the 9th-10th centuries during the reign of Prince Vasylko Rostyslavych, the great-grandson of Grand Duke Yaroslav the Wise.

In the 12th century, Terebovlia was a significant political and cultural center. When Volodymyrko Volodarevych became the Prince of Terebovlia, he united the Principalities of Peremyshl, Zvenyhorod, Galicia and Terebovlia and made Halych the capital.

From 1199, Terebovlia belonged to the Galicia-Volhynia State. After the death of the prominent prince Roman Mstyslavovych in 1205, the Galicia-Volhynia State disintegrated, and the Terebovlia principality separated again.

In 1241, Terebovlia was ravaged by Khan Batu’s troops, and the castle was destroyed.

In 1340, Galicia was annexed to the Kingdom of Poland. However, the town of Terebovlia retained its high status and became one of the centers of royal power.

In 1389, the Polish King Władysław Jagiełło granted the town (one of the first in Western Ukraine) Magdeburg rights.

As part of the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, it was the center of the town eldership, and since 1434, it has been one of the county centers (“grods”) of the Galician Land of the Rus Voivodeship.

During the National Liberation Revolution of the Ukrainian people of 1648–1676, Terebovlia was one of the centers of the people’s movement in Galician Podillia.

From 1772, Terebovlia was part of the Austrian Empire.

Under the terms of the Schönbrunn Peace, in the period from 1810 to 1815, part of Galicia, including Terebovlia, was annexed by the Russian Empire.

From November 1918, the town was part of the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic.

By the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 26, 2001, Terebovlia was included in the list of historical population centers of Ukraine.

Economy

The main profit-generating branch of the Terebovlia community is agriculture. Enterprises of various forms of ownership operate in the field of agricultural production. Thanks to this, the town has a unique opportunity to become a powerful logistics hub or a center for processing agricultural products.

38 farms growing grain and technical crops are registered on the territory of the Terebovlia Urban Territorial Community.

18 enterprises and institutions operate in the field of production and trade on the territory of the Terebovlia community.

Limestone, sand, and clay deposits are the useful minerals of Terebovlia urban territorial community. The community is rich in stone deposits, the so-called Terebovlia red sandstone.

In connection with the full-scale invasion, the labor market has changed significantly. Most of the community’s able-bodied population went abroad. Mobilization increased the shortage of highly qualified personnel. The market of construction and repair works was the most affected. The sphere of entertainment and services was no less affected. A large number of internally displaced persons and specialists in various fields arrived in the community. Most of the IDPs found work in the health care sector, very few in trade, the rest work remotely.

In the process of business relocation, 4 enterprises moved to the community. The town authorities are actively working to provide comprehensive support to relocated businesses.

The Terebovlia community has an effective educational field, for which the most funds are allocated from the community budget. 18 institutions of general secondary education and 16 institutions of preschool education operate here.

In the Terebovlia community, 5 centers of culture and leisure (which include 12 clubs), 14 libraries, an art school and a museum-workshop have been created.

The Terebovlia Regional Center of Primary Health Care and the modern medical and diagnostic complex – the Terebovlia town Hospital – operate on the territory of the community.

The community also has the Center for the Development of Sports and Physical Education of the Terebovlia town Council.

The territorial social services center of the Terebovlia Town Council serves lonely elderly people and people with disabilities. People with disabilities can use specially equipped vehicles to visit medical facilities.

Community and War

From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the community sheltered 4,500 internally displaced persons.

Today, there are 823 displaced persons in the community for whom comfortable conditions of stay have been created.

To unite the efforts of society and internally displaced persons, the Council for Internally Displaced Persons was established at the Terebovlia Town Council.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the residents directed all their resources and capabilities to help in the fight against russian aggression. Residents’ activities were mainly focused on supporting the army, forced migrants and compatriots who needed help due to difficult life circumstances.

Educational institutions actively participated in providing defenders with food. In cultural institutions, everyone who could do it skillfully made camouflage nets. People in their own homes created stations for the production of trench candles and potbelly stoves, cooking, making energy bars and baking.

People of the Community

Since 2021, the Terebovlia community has been headed by Oleh Prodan. Responsible, proactive, open to new ideas, he emphasizes the improvement of territories and the development of the social sphere.

After the start of the full-scale war, cooperation with the military stationed on the territory of the community, as well as the development of international cooperation with the aim of involving the European Union in helping the community became the main area of the mayor’s activity. Thanks to efforts in this area, Terebovlia received another partner town – Pont-du-Château (France) – in 2023).

The youth council works actively in the community. The deputies of the Youth Council consider it their greatest achievement to have already managed to become an authority for young people. Their opinion is asked by adult residents of the town, and the employees of the Town Council and the head of the community consult with them on important issues concerning the Terebovlia territorial community.

Deputies and volunteers of the Youth Council live by the principle: “Changing the world is easy, even if you change it a bit.”

The community honors traditional holidays. The Christmas extravaganza is an annual festival in Terebovlia, founded in early 2014. On this day, in the tent town, you can enjoy a variety of Christmas table dishes, warm yourself with hot drinks, and also hear and see a variety of traditional carols, nativity scenes, Malanka rites from different parts of the Terebovlia community and beyond. Guests from Ukraine and abroad are invited to participate in order to entertain people with bright costumes and fun performances throughout the day.

Patriot’s Day is a local youth initiative supported by the Terebovlia community. Since 2014, actions, flash mobs, master classes, theatrical performances, exhibitions and screenings on the topic “What is patriotism?” have been held here on the last Sunday of November. After all, this concept absorbs the best features of Ukrainianness – it is interpreted as love for the native land and the people who live next to you. Not criticizing, but joining forces, we defend our identity, originality, unique face on the world map.

Development Strategy

The community has a Development Strategy for the Terebovlia community for 2017-2025. According to the strategy, the following strategic goals are defined:

  1. Development of the local economy;
  2. Comprehensive development of tourism;
  3. Support of civil society,
  4. Support for the development of rural areas of the community.

The community has the image of an ecologically clean population center.

The mission of the Terebovlia community is to become a successful, competitive area by implementing the existing economic potential, ensuring a new quality of life and safe living conditions for the population, preserving the historical and cultural heritage and national traditions.

It is planned to open a branch “Terebovlia Dairy” and to reconstruct the existing treatment facilities and the sewage system of the town of Terebovlia to ensure the quality of wastewater treatment to the level required for discharge into the Hnizna River.

A package of documents on the creation of an industrial park on the territory of the community is currently being prepared.

In 2015–2019, Terebovlia signed sister town agreements with the towns of Lubomierz, Konopnica, Starogard Gdański, Kowary (Republic of Poland);

In 2023, Terebovlia signed a sister town agreement with the town of Pont-du-Château (Republic of France);

Terebovlia is a comfortable town that has long been at the crossroads of important trade and economic routes, open for cooperation and establishing constructive business relations with investors and representatives of business circles.
