History
The first settlements on the territory of the modern community have ancient origins. Archaeological excavations revealed three barrows dated to the late 2nd – early 1st millennium BC, which contained burials of the pit culture, as well as finds from the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age.
The first mention of “Dalnyk” dates back to the middle of the 17th century. In 1657, the Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi described the camp “Dallyk”, which was located on the site of the modern village of Dalnyk. It was probably a military garrison protecting the surrounding territories from Cossack attacks.
Modern historians believe that the first Ukrainian settlement on the territory of the community appeared at the end of the 18th century, after the destruction of Zaporizhzhya Sich. Part of the Cossacks settled around Khadjibey, founding the villages of Dalnyk, Usatove and others, as evidenced by numerous Cossack crosses that have survived to this day.
As for Petrodolynske, its modern history begins in 1792. However, in 1804 these lands were handed over to German colonists for settlement and establishment of Peterstal and Josefstal colonies.
By 1886, 1,450 people lived in the Peterstal colony. The colony was founded by German immigrants from Hungary and Germany and from the beginning had an Evangelical -Lutheran character.
The Lutheran Church was closed in 1933, but its revival began with the migration of ethnic Germans from Central Asia to Petrodolynske in 1992. The new church building was consecrated on October 31, 1998.
The history of the Velykyi Dalnyk community is a reflection of the multicultural heritage that has been formed over the centuries. From the ancient settlements of the pit culture to German colonies and Ukrainian Cossack founders, the community has gone through constant changes and revivals. Today, the Velykyi Dalnyk community is a vivid example of how different cultures and eras leave their mark on the development of rural areas, preserving historical memory and opening new horizons for future generations.
